Giraffes Can't Dance Inspired Design

Giraffes are my all-time favorite animals. I have more stuffed giraffe animals than is appropriate for a grown up, including a four foot tall one. Now I can just say that they're my sons when people ask about the collection! Five years ago I had the opportunity to see these majestic creatures while on an African Safari. I literally jumped out of the truck every time we came across them and took hundreds of pictures of them during the trek.

I had a lot of fun designing this illustration. The bold, bright colors were fun to select and the little guy turned out to be super cute. I might have to use this color palette again in the near future. Be sure to head on over to the shop and get this illustration in a variety of products. Available on mugs, phone cases, totes, pillows, and much more! Don't forget to scroll to the bottom to read what inspired this design.

Design Inspiration

The inspiration for this design came from Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae, which I recently read with my son.

Gerald the giraffe wants nothing more than to dance like all the creatures at the Jungle Dance. With crooked knees and thin legs, it's hard for him, especially when all the other animals taunt and laugh at him.  All it takes is a little bit of encouragement from an unlikely friend to help Gerald realize he could in fact dance to his own tune.

This book teaches readers that just because you're different doesn't mean you're useless. Sometimes you just need a different song so you can do things in your own unique way. This is a perfect read to help teach kids to have better confidence in themselves and to be proud of who they are.

The more and more I'm reading picture books to my son the more I'm realizing just how much these books speak to me as an adult. Giraffes Can't Dance contains a powerful message for all. I highly recommend you get a copy to read with your little ones. You will enjoy it just as much as them.

Design Inspiration

This new design was inspired by the children's version of Moby Dick:A Baby Lit. It is filled with beautiful illustrations by Alison Oliver. Her minimalist style and strong color palette makes these baby board books just as appealing and as fun to read as their classic versions.
