Hello Friends! It’s been a real long while since I’ve made an appearance. Thank you to all who continued to follow during my absence. Last week I had a rejuvenating and relaxing Spring Break. While I took every opportunity to enjoy lots of giggles and snuggles with my son, I also spent some time thinking about my passions, interests, and future aspirations. As the remaining minutes of my break dwindled down last night, I sat down and created a list of goals for the month.
My two rules when making the list of goals were:
- Make achievable goals.
- Be true to what you want.
Goal # 1: Read more books
For the past month or so I've been in one of those reading-but-not-really-reading type of phases. I want to spend more time this month reading books aligned with my interests and future ambitions, as well as finish many of the books I've started this year and haven't gotten around to finishing.
Goal #2: Create more designs
The past year has been crazy wonderful. I had a baby in April. I started a new job as a school librarian in September. I finished my final semester of grad school and graduated in December. I've kind of had my hands full. There wasn't much room to focus on designs. Mostly because I didn't make it a priority or crave out specific times in my day to devote to it. That all about to change! I've created an achievable, weekly plan for the remainder of the month, dusted off my sketchbook, and brainstormed a list of ideas. I am excited to see what I can accomplish!
Goal #3: Practice Lettering
Improving my calligraphy skills and learning more about brush lettering has been on my list of aspirations for quite a while, I've just never really committed to making it happen. Not for long, friends. I ordered these Tombow Dual Brush Pens from Amazon, downloaded some free practice sheets from Pinterest, and started following some new lettering accounts on Instagram. I plan on documenting my lettering journey on Instragram, so feel free to follow along @whisperingwordsdesign. If you have any lettering tips, tricks, or suggestions, please send them my way!
Goal #4: Be more creative
While on the surface this goal may seem similar to goal number two, it actually has a different purpose. I want try new styles, find new inspiration, think outside my design box. I want to find my own unique style. I want to discover ways to explore and expand in my technique and understanding. I want to challenge myself to not imitate designs, but to CREATE something fresh and new!
Goal #5: Blog Weekly
I'm a bit of a wishy-washy blogger. I'll have a burst of content inspiration only to be followed by a blank slat of nothing. I'm determined to not let this new inspiration be turned into nothing. I'm actually going to use the blogging scheduler I designed to help me stick to it!
Goal # 6: Take risks
I like being in my comfort zone, and I fear failure. I'm slowly starting to realize the failures I fear so much are actually some of my best learning moments. So during this month I'm throwing fear out the window, I'm tuning out the whispers that cause me to second guess myself, and I'm letting my creativity run wild. Just writing this feels so liberating!
I’m excited to see where these goals take me, but most of all, I'm looking forward to devoting more time to my passions.
Do you make monthly or weekly goals? What is one thing you want to try and achieve this month?
